Made in Indonesia by Non-governemental Organisation working with Trash-pickers community in Jakarta

Planet :
Jakarta is like many cities in Asia, Africa, and the Middle East where local governments struggle from insufficient funding to build adequate waste management infrastructure, inability to create community-based systems, or a combination of these and other factors. Yet these cities generate enormous amounts of garbage. In Jakarta, a city of 13 million people, 6,000 tons of solid waste is created every day. That amounts to 2.2 million tons per year!! The vast majority of this trash – biodegradable and non-biodegradable – ends up in the citys landfill sites.
GreenCaravel works with the NGO that purchases non-biodegradable trash directly from trash pickers and collects waste from corporations. These materials are transformed into a range of products that are then sold to individuals around the world. Through this process, waste is kept out of landfill and consumers are educated about the joint problems of excess and poverty.

People:
For most types of waste, trash pickers receive about $0.17 per kilogram. When they sell plastic water bottles, they receive from $0.22 to $0.56 per kilogram. We pay $0.78 per kilo, which is close to four times more than the collectors receive for most forms of trash and 30% over the price they receive for their most lucrative line – clean plastic water bottles.

Education:
5% of GreenCaravel purchases go into a scholarship fund to provide educational opportunities for the children of trash pickers as well as for abandoned children who have been forced to make their living picking trash.

For shopping or beach, just use this bag as you want and show how fashion you are!
